Released today (Oct. 19), the new song from the pair is an evocative, swaying pop ballad built around melodious strings and a snapping beat. It was released as part of Station X 0, a digital collaboration series from Red Velvet’s label SM Entertainment.
The accompanying, cinematically-shot music video for “Written In The Stars” was filmed in a Californian desert. It features the pair as lovers trying to get close with one another but tip-toeing around their feelings, and ultimately ends with Legend leaving on a bus.
“I grew up listening to John Legend and I just still can’t believe I got to work with him,” Wendy tells Billboard in an exclusive statement. “A song with both of our voices together is just so unreal! I remember being so nervous throughout the whole shoot like I was frozen and couldn’t speak — it was just a dream come true.”
“Written In The Stars” is the fifth Station X 0 collaborative track to come out this year, following MeloMance and Taeyeon’s “Page 0,” Baekhyun and Loco’s “Young,” Chanyeol and Sehun’s “We Young,” and “Wow Thing,” which brought together four popular K-pop singers to form a vibrant temporary girl group.
Following its release, Legend shared the duet on Twitter.
