Executive Turntable: Moves at Ticketmaster, Capitol Music Group, MTV & More

Ticketmaster has hired Tawn Albright as executive vice president, the company announced on Oct. 4. In his new role, Albright will lead growth and expansion of Ticketmaster’s specialized platforms including TicketWeb, which focuses on ticketing clubs and small venues, and Universe, Ticketmaster’s DIY ticketing platform.

“Tawn is another unique addition to our leadership team. He has a fantastic background with a proven record of leveraging technology to bring fresh product and service solutions to market in both ecommerce and enterprise software,” said Jared Smith, president of Ticketmaster. “There’s no doubt he will help us accelerate an area of our business that is already growing at an impressive rate.”

“As we all keep hearing, we now live in an experiential economy where people are yearning for live events,” added Albright. “Concerts, comedy shows, cultural fairs, festivals and attractions are more popular than ever before. This isn’t Albright’s first stint with Ticketmaster — he previously ran corporate development for the company. Additionally, he worked as part of the executive team at Leaf Group, was the co-founder and former CEO of digital agency Rockhouse Partners and held development and growth roles with companies such as Cox Communications and The Coca-Cola Company.


Capitol Music Group has named Anton Monsted EVP of soundtrack and A&R on Tuesday (Oct. 9). The appointment was announced by CMG president Ashley Newton and COO Michelle Jubelirer, to whom Monsted will report.

Monsted will serve as a liaison to the film and television communities and have direct involvement in all matters concerning CMG’s soundtrack projects in the newly created role.

“The powerful union of music, film and television is so vibrant and important, and we have finally found the ideal creative executive to represent us in this realm,” said Newton. “Anton brings with him taste, expertise and strong relationships as well as an impressive pedigree of success.”

Monsted added: “We have an opportunity to build the premier home for filmmakers, and their projects, where strong music storytelling walks hand-in-hand with the creation of great soundtrack releases. I’m grateful to Steve Barnett, Ashley, and Michelle for the opportunity, and excited to join the Capitol team.”

Previously, Monsted was senior vp of music at Twentieth Century Fox. Monsted jump started his career as an assistant on Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 adaptation of Romeo and Juliet and has since worked on movies that include Hidden Figures, The Greatest Showman and Logan.


Mike Greco has been named EVP, content strategy and business planning at Viacom-owned cable networks MTV, VH1 and Logo, it was announced Wednesday (Oct. 10).

In the new role, Greco will partner with Chris McCarthy, president of the group, to focus on the intersection of program scheduling, content strategy, acquisitions, finance, quantitative research and audience insights.

“Mike’s holistic approach to programming makes him the ideal fit to keep our core linear business strong and fuel our industry-leading momentum on cable,” McCarthy said. “His extensive knowledge and keen understanding of consumers will ensure we’re constantly thinking about our audience in new and innovative ways.”

Added Greco: “I’m excited to be back at MTV and partner with Chris and his excellent leadership team to further grow these powerful brands. This group understands how culture, talent and creativity intersect and that knowledge allows them to connect with fans across generations.”

Prior to joining the team, Greco was EVP, programming and research at Discovery and held senior roles at multiple global media agencies.


Kobalt’s AWAL music company has promoted Matt Riley to vice president, A&R, it was announced Friday (Oct. 12). He will be based in Kobalt’s London office and will oversee AWAL’s U.K. A&R team.

In the role, Riley and his team will be responsible for overseeing the selection of artists and labels applying to join AWAL, while also identifying and developing emerging artists.

“Matt has been instrumental in creating the stellar growth of the AWAL business and fully deserves his promotion to vp, A&R, which recognizes his achievements to date within the global AWAL team,” said AWAL president Paul Hitchman.

“I’m delighted for Matt and his well-deserved promotion,” added Alison Donald, Kobalt’s head of creative. “He combines all the essential qualities needed for an A&R executive of today and the future — good ears, great instinct and a deep understanding of analytics and marketing.”

Riley previously worked as the director of creative at AWAL, where he signed a number of notable independent artists to the company including Tom Misch, The Wombats and Neneh Cherry.


Big Noise announced on Monday (Oct. 8) that Eli Lande has been appointed to president of Big Noise Live. As president, he will be in charge of handling strategy, business development, revenue and operations. He will report to Big Noise’s founder, Nick Gross.

“As a drummer in a touring band, I found that nothing connects an artist more to the audience than a live show,” said Gross. “It is this fundamental belief in the power of community and shared experience as the basis of a very compelling business model that led me to partner with Eli in forming Big Noise Live.”

Lande previously served as SVP of events at Universal Music Group, where he spearheaded the company’s North American events business. Big Noise launched earlier this year and lists Ashley Tisdale and Half the Animal among their signees.
