BTS Kicks Off London Concerts With Jungkook Seated Due to Leg Injury

BTS held their first of two sold-out shows at London’s O2 Arena on Tuesday night (Oct. 9), kicking off the European leg of their worldwide Love Yourself Tour. Unfortunately, things got off to a rocky start with Jungkook unable to perform choreography due to an injury earlier in the day.

Minutes before the concert was set to begin, BTS’ label Big Hit Entertainment announced in the arena and through social media that the 21-year-old was going to perform seated and was unable to partake in the group’s choreography.

“Approximately two hours ago following the rehearsal and sound check, Jung Kook was lightly stretching in the waiting room when he collided with floor furnishings and suffered an injury to his heel,” reads the English version of the statement. “Medical staff immediately responded and performed the necessary treatment. The opinion of the medical team is that while the injury is not serious, performing choreography may do further damage to the injured area.”

“Following the advice of the medical staff, Jung Kook will take part in the performance tonight but remain seated without choreography.”

The letter also included an apology and asked for fans’ understanding in the matter. The show then started a few moments later as BTS performed alongside a seated Jungkook.

Fans flocked to social media in an outpouring of support for BTS’ youngest member, especially after videos began circulating showing that he broke down during the encore portion of the show. In videos posted to social media, fans could be heard cheering him on, saying, “It’s all right” in Korean. He responded by saying, “Thank you, I love you.”

The O2 shows on Oct. 9 and 10 precede upcoming European concerts in Amsterdam, Berlin and Paris. BTS’ Love Yourself tour will then head to Japan in November.

The act performed at New York City’s Citi Field on Saturday in a historic performance, their first Stateside stadium show ever following two chart-topping albums earlier this year.

BTS also won the favorite social artist award at this year’s AMAs on Tuesday night.
