Mike WiLL Made-It to Serve as Executive Producer for ‘Creed II’ Soundtrack

Hip-hop’s influence on American pop culture can’t be denied, as the genre is making a particularly big mark on the film industry lately. Kendrick Lamar took on the responsibility of curating the Black Panther soundtrack in 2017. Future also picked up the same role for the SuperFly remake. Now Mike WiLL Made-It looks to follow in the footsteps of his rap compatriots after being tapped to serve as executive producer on the upcoming Creed II soundtrack, according to Variety (Oct. 9).

The Atlanta-bred hitmaker will work alongside Lugwig Göransson, who scored the Black Panther soundtrack, and music supervisors Fam Rothstein and Jen Malone to assist in crafting the 2015 sequel’s soundtrack. “I approached the music by first watching Creed II and then creating a playlist of songs people could work out to, chill to, vibe to or to get them through any struggle which matched specific scenes in the movie,” Mike WiLL told Variety.

The Ear Drummer Records CEO wants to have fans believe in soundtracks being an integral part of the cinematic experience again. “It’s important to show the new generation that soundtracks can be just as exciting as traditional albums if put in the hands of the right curator. After people hear the music, I want them to say movie soundtracks are back,” explained the 29-year-old.

For now, be on the lookout for a full track list courtesy of Interscope Records in the coming weeks. Creed II — which once again stars Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed, with Sylvester Stallone reprising his role of Rocky Balboa — arrives in theaters Nov. 21.
