Dads love to take video of the landmark firsts in their kid’s lives. But when your pops happens to be one of the biggest movie stars in the world, those precious moments might just be captured in a three-camera, HD shoot from Miami when you take the stage for your biggest gig to date. That’s what goes down in a new five-minute behind-the-scenes video from Will Smith, who jetted down to Florida on Aug. 9 to check out son Jaden Smith‘s opening night on J. Cole’s KOD tour.
With Jaden’s uncle, Caleeb Pinkett, along for the ride, Smith’s latest vlog opens with yet another edition of “Scare Scotty,” as he and actress Liza Koshy creep up on The Silver Fox in the backstage green room. But the trip is really about chronicling Jaden’s big day, so of course veteran performer dad can’t help but shake his head when his son ducks out 30 minutes before stage time to grab something to eat. “At the core I blame his mother,” Smiths jokes while chilling backstage at AmericanAirlines Arena. “I wanted to be more disciplined with the kids and she had a different point of view. So what we get is Jaden… he gonna show up late for the first date of his tour.”
Cut to Jaden taking selfies with just a few minutes until showtime and the father-son duo listening to “Icon” on their phone to figure out when Will should hop on stage during Jaden’s set for his cameo. And then it’s go time and the Smith family, of course, crushes it bilingual in front of a packed house.
