Hozier Reveals Release Date For ‘Nina Cried Power’ EP

The record is due out on Sept. 6.

Fans of “Take Me To Church” singer Hozier got some good news on Friday (Aug. 31), when the Irish star announced the just-around-the-corner release of his new EP, Nina Cried Power.

With a tweet of a handwritten note that read, “Thrilled to announced my new EP, Nina Cried Power, will be released on Sept. 6th. Can’t wait to share these songs with you,” he ended a long drought for followers who have waited years for the follow-up to this 2014 eponymous full-length debut.

The singer, who has kept a relatively low profile for the past year, teased that he was gearing up to return to the spotlight in June when he announced a 17-city North American tour slated to kick off at Ottawa’s CityFolk Festival on Sept. 15. “Very excited to announce the upcoming tour for later in the year, which will coincide with the releasing of new work,” he said in a statement at the time. “The completion of the record is fast approaching and I’m eager to share it with everyone.”

In a recent NPR Music interview, Hozier said he’s been pumping a ton of Kendrick Lamar during the sessions for the EP, explaining, “You’d be amazed at how much I’ve managed to not listen to music when I’m in studio, certainly when I’m working on the material itself in-depth…I tend to just focus on that and try to represent that as best as possible in the days in studio. My head is constantly going back to the 1950s and the 1960s, and then keeping kind of an ear out. Hip-hop music now is fantastic and incredibly brave, so a lot of Kendrick [Lamar].”

Before hitting the states Hozier will play a trio of shows at Dublin’s Academy on Sept. 3, 5 and 7. His most recent music was the song “Better Love,” which appeared on the The Legend of Tarzan soundtrack.
