Cher attends the ‘Free The Wild’ Charity Launch and Screening of ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’ in London on July 17, 2018.
The wait may finally be over! While music legend Cher has certainly been busy lately promoting “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,” it has been a minute since we have heard new music from the “Believe” singer. After teasing fans with a track list of her upcoming ABBA covers album, on Wednesday (August 8), she released a snippet of one of the tracks.
The diva posted a cryptic tweet featuring her vocals and a snippet of a cover of “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight),” the 1979 ABBA classic. Music fans might also recognize the song from being sampled in the 2005 Madonna single “Hung Up.” Fans were quick to speculate that this may be the lead single from the covers album, and that the project is coming sooner than previously thought.
Cher has been talking about doing an ABBA covers album for quite some time, and she put her spin on “Fernando” for the long-awaited Mamma Mia 2. She opened up to Today last month about how the album was already finished, telling host Kathie Lee Gifford, “After I did ‘Fernando,’ I thought it would really be fun to do an album of ABBA songs, so I did!” The 72-year-old added: “It’s not what you think of when you think of ABBA, ’cause I did it in a different way.”
