While she’s busy making headlines by collaborating with huge names like Beyoncé, Diplo and Drake, bounce rapper Big Freedia is also continuing her years-long solo music career. Earlier this year, the New Orleans-based star released her critically acclaimed EP 3rd Ward Bounce, marking her first major-label record release with Asylum Records.
One of the most notable songs from the EP was “Karaoke,” a pop-laced jam featuring pop and hip-hop up-and-comer Lizzo. So naturally, when it came time to shoot a video for her song, Freedia teamed up with the “Good as Hell” singer to deliver their fans what they’ve come to expect.
The video shows Freedia and Lizzo twerking and dancing around a beach, while Freedia makes appearances at a bingo hall and, you guessed it, a karaoke bar to show each crowd how to work her magic. “Why the fuck would I throw shade with all this sunshine/ I just caught me whole case, I’m worried bout mine,” the rapper spits from a pool chair. “I show up on time/ Leave hoes shook inside.”
The queen of bounce has been achieving significant public attention, especially after being featured on Drake’s smash-hit song “Nice for What.” After pointing out that she was disappointed that the rapper had decided not to include her in his video for the track, Freedia told TMZ she ended up calling Drake to be included in his new video for “In My Feelings.”
