Kehlani Asks Fans to Be Patient During Her Much-Needed Time Off: ‘Please Don’t Rush Me’

Kehlani is asking her fans to be patient for new music while she takes a much-needed break from her busy career.

“I’m on my first break in my entire career. i’ve been on 3 tours this year. i’m loving being home for more than 2 days at a time. please don’t rush me, the musics coming when it’s supposed to. i’ve earned this time,” Kehlani tweeted Saturday morning (Aug. 4).

The 23-year-old singer has been hard at work since self-releasing her free mixtape Cloud 19 in 2014 and subsequently opening for fellow Oakland, California, native G-Eazy on tour the next year. In 2015, she also dropped her first commercial mixtape, You Should Be Here, which was nominated for best urban contemporary album at the 2016 Grammy Awards.

She followed the mixtape with her major-label debut album, SweetSexySavage, through Atlantic in 2017.

During that time, Kehlani went through a messy break-up with her ex PartyNextDoor, toured in support of her album, suffered from depression, and survived a suicide attempt.

“I was moving at such a crazy-ass pace in the industry, getting so much props and shit. You can get lost in it a little bit. I’ve eliminated the ‘beat yourself up’ factor,” the singer told Billboard in 2017.

In recent months, Kehlani served as the opening act for Demi Lovato’s world tour, which ended in April. And from there, jumped on as the opener for Halsey’s recent trek.

A busy four years indeed.
